2,300 at Worship Central's big day

in

More than 2,300 worship leaders, musicians, pastors, and other worshippers attended Worship Central's biggest-ever event at Westminster Central Hall on Saturday.

Guest speakers included Matt Redman, Mike Pilavachi and theologian Tom Wright, who is Bishop of Durham.

Matt Redman led worship in the morning and then spoke at a songwriters lunch.

From an hour before the doors opened, queues formed out into the street and around the building.

Workshops were held on the three themes Encounter (Tom Wright), Equip (Tim Hughes and Al Gordon) and Empower (Mike Pilavachi).

In the evening, Mike Pilavachi cut short his talk because the Holy Spirit was moving so powerfully in the hall.

Team member Roxanne Tagg said, 'Mike welcomed the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit really did turn up. I think a lot of people who hadn’t experienced something like that before, just sat there staring.

'Mike Pilivachi gave a very short sermon but the Holy Spirit was still moving… it was really good.

'From all the emails that have come in, it is clear that people have been so impacted by the day. They arrived feeling really dry and left feeling encouraged and inspired.

'That’s Tim and Al’s vision – that people would be envisioned to want to go and transform the worship at their own churches.

Worship Central intern Beth Coulson, who helped lead worship in the evening, said, 'I went home and had to write everything down because I had so much in head that I’d learnt.

'I was really challenged by not being afraid of the unknown. Mike wasn’t afraid to stand in silence for ages and see what happens. I am so scared when I’m leading worship of ever being in silence; I feel like I’ve lost control – like everyone’s looking at me thinking ‘What are you going to do next?’

'But actually silence is so powerful. If we’re supposed to discern where the Holy Spirit’s going, how can you do that when you’re thinking ‘What chorus is next?’

How did worship go in the evening?

Beth said, 'It was brilliant. I was so scared beforehand but it was really, really cool.'
