Around 700 delegates from all across the UK attended the annual UK Alpha Vision Day at Holy Trinity Brompton last month.
The day was hosted by HTB Vicar and Alpha speaker Nicky Gumbel, who introduced a number of speakers including Principal of St Paul's Theological Centre Dr Graham Tomlin, Director of Prayer Pete Greig and Marriage Course pioneers Nicky and Sila Lee who also promoted their new book The Parenting Book, which is to be launched in April.
Delegates were invited to the stage in a time of feedback to share how Alpha was running in their area.
A delegate from West Sussex, told how she is involved in running an Alpha course on a housing estate in Littlehampton. She said, 'Alpha has brought a lot of hope to a lot of people in our area and I just want to say thank-you.
'It has been amazing to see. We're working with people where there is no hope at all, where there is so much deprivation.
'There's drugs and alcohol, there's abuse and I can see the light shining in that place through Alpha.'
Another delegate, Paula, helps run an ESOL Alpha course - for English speakers of other languages - at the World's End Estate in Chelsea. She said, 'We've got eighty different nations represented on the estate and the majority second language is Arabic so you need to picture that the level of English is much lower than a native speaker's.
'Most of the participants who come really fear God. It's really humbling doing this and seeing their hunger and their deep questions about the nature of forgiveness and God's love.
'The nation's that we've had in our group represented are India, Ecuador, Croatia, Chile, Iran, Iraq, Morocco, Eritrea, Somalia, China, Japan, Gaza and Sudan.'
A testimony was also heard from a woman who had been a Buddhist before doing Alpha. She told how her life has changed since completing the course.
