The Bishop of London was among 150 guests who attended the launch of a new book to help Christians in the workplace in March. The book God at Work is by leading investment banker Ken Costa, who is also Chairman of Alpha International. He has donated all his royalties to Alpha.

The book’s launch was marked by The Times newspaper with a double-page interview with Ken Costa, headlined, ‘Investment banker who is comfortable taking his religious beliefs to the office.’
Alpha speaker Nicky Gumbel told guests at the launch party, ‘Ken is one of the leading bankers in the world. He has combined that with this strong faith in Jesus Christ.
‘I think that’s what makes this book so important. It is a book which explains how you can both stay in the workplace, which is the front line of Christian ministry, and combine it with a strong faith in Jesus Christ.’
Ken replied, ‘We shouldn’t be surprised that churches are empty if we’ve got nothing to say to the people that are doing their day to day work.
‘I think society has run out of energy. It really has. It hasn’t begun to understand the power of the resurrection, the newness of life, the throbbing excitement of living a life with God in a difficult, hard, struggling place...
‘I look around and I just see the bankruptcy of the ideas, the lack of any sense of hope for the future, and I wonder to myself that if we don’t take a grip of this, who will?’
In a message endorsing the book, Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury, wrote, ‘In these pages, Ken Costa brings to bear the experience of a varied and highly professional life so as to show just how the transforming gospel is at work in the workplace. It is full of acumen, shrewdness, hopefulness...’
