MORE THAN 1,800 delegates worldwide have now been trained on how to run Alpha through the initiative known as Global Alpha Training (GAT).
The initiative aims to send teams of between four and eight people from churches in one country to those of another to train those interested in running Alpha.
Nineteen different teams consisting of around 150 people have already been sent out from several different countries – and hundreds more are planned.
So far, 23 GAT events have been held in 17 different countries including Argentina, Burundi, Indonesia, Poland and Zambia.
GAT events held so far include:
- A team sent out from the City Life Church in Hobsons Bay, Australia, to train 230 church leaders in Indonesia.
- A team from Holy Trinity Brompton travelled to Ethiopia to train 170 delegates.
- A team from Our Lady of the Assumption church in Lynnfield, Massachusetts, United States, spoke at two events in Argentina where more than 100 church leaders were trained.
- A team from Holy Trinity Brompton led two training events in Ghana. One event was held in Accra, which was opened by William K Asiedu, Director of Ghana Prisons. More than 250 delegates attended the events.
- A team from St Paul’s, Shadwell, has visited Uganda where they lead two GAT events.
- A team from Holy Trinity Brompton trained 140 at an event in Kuwait.
- A team from Manchester travelled to Sierra Leone to lead an event attended by around 80 delegates.
There are currently plans for a further 25 GAT events in 2008 and 2009.
