More than 1,000 people took part in an Alpha event hosted by 36 city churches in Leeds earlier this month.

Guest speakers were former cabinet minister Jonathan Aitken, fitness guru Rosemary Coneley and ex Big Brother winner Cameron Stout.

It was the largest inter-church event held in Leeds for many years and was held at Leeds Town Hall.

Around 300 people attended a lunchtime talk given by Jonathan Aitken who spoke of his experience of Alpha and how it helped him during a time when he was going "through the depths." He spoke about his time in prison having been convicted of perjury.

In the evening Nicky Gumbel was the main speaker and he spoke on 'Christianity, boring, untrue, irrelevant?'

Cameron Stout spoke of his experience of Alpha at a local church in Orkney where he lives.

Rosemary Coneley spoke about how her lifehas been transformed since becoming a Christian, she recommended Alpha.

There were also a number of interviews from young people who had recently done the Alpha course.
