Welcome to the official website for Alpha North – the regional office for the Alpha course in the North of England.

Alpha North is an initiative to champion Alpha, and its related ministries, and to support the 1,750 churches and other groups running the course across the North of England. The vision of Alpha North is to play our part in the re-evangelisation of the North of England, and the transformation of society.

Our aim is to give every person in the North of England – regardless of age, background or status - an opportunity to attend a well run Alpha course near where they live, work or study.

Alpha North operates in:

Northumberland, Cumbria, Tees Valley, Tyne & Wear, County Durham, Merseyside, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Yorkshire & Cheshire

Newburn Parish in Newcastle Diocese

Youth Alpha returns to Liverpool School

Youth Alpha is returning to Archbishop Blanch School, Liverpool's leading Girls High School in October. For the third year running the Youth Alpha course is being run at the school during the lunchtime periods. Christian Selvaratnam
Director of Alpha North

Christian Selvaratnam is the Director of Alpha North and responsible for developing the work of Alpha in the North of England. He is married to Amanda, has three children and lives in York where he enjoys family activities, walking and curry! Christian has been involved in full-time Church leadership for over nine years, and has spent the last five of those planting a new church in York.
He is passionate about bringing Christians of different denominations together for mission and prayer, and about empowering churches to reach out to their local communities in relevant and meaningful ways.

Roger Simpson

Roger Simpson
Chairman of Alpha North

Roger Simpson is the Chairman of Alpha North and the Vicar of St Michael-le-Belfrey Church in York. He is married to Ursula and has five children. Over the last 25 years Roger has pastored three churches and has been involved in evangelistic missions in England and abroad.
After his curacy, he took on a redundant church in Edinburgh, which he saw grow from 20 people to over 800. He has been involved in leading Alpha courses since 1991, and ran the first Alpha in the Workplace course with businessmen in Vancouver. Roger enjoys watercolour painting and playing golf.

Rebecca Stewart

Rebecca Stewart
National Director of Alpha UK

Rebecca Stewart is the National Director of Alpha UK. She joined the staff at Alpha International in September 2003 after spending 10 years in the City working as a management consultant and headhunter. Rebecca oversees all Alpha-related activity in the UK, including the regional offices. She is married to Alex, whom she met on an Alpha course at Holy Trinity Brompton!

Bonnie Yule-Kuehne

Bonnie Yule-Kuehne
UK Development Director

Bonnie moved to England over 10 years ago for graduate studies at the London School of Economics before going to work for the US Ambassador to the Court of St James's. She came to work for Alpha International five years ago, working directly with the Executive Director of Alpha International and HTB, and in 2006 took on the role of heading up the development of Alpha in the UK.

Mark Rance

Mark Rance
Co-ordinator of St Michael-le-Belfrey Church

Mark Rance is the Church Co-ordinator of St Michael-le-Belfrey Church in York. Prior to this, Mark was the curriculum team administrator for the National Curriculum, and publicity officer for the Riding Lights Theatre Company. Mark has run many Alpha courses and has also hosted Alpha conferences in York.

 

Ray Bell
Alpha Adviser

Ray Bell is a Management Consultant and company director. Prior to this he has worked as a soldier. He is married to Susie and lives in Thirsk, where they enjoy horse riding. Ray has been involved with Alpha since the early days.

 

Dan Sladden
Board Member

Dan Sladden became a Christian in 2002 after attending an Alpha Course in London whilst working for a leading investment bank in the City. He now lives in Thirsk with his wife Ruth and their four young children.
