Alpha England

We have recently specified a new Alpha England team (alphaengland@alpha.org) which makes up the full Alpha UK complement along with Alpha Scotland, Alpha Northern Ireland and the budding Alpha Wales. Just like the Alpha course itself, we love to make people the focus of what we do in supporting and developing Alpha. We are here to help, encourage and support people running courses across the regions in England, and will do everything we can to provide know-how, resources and guidance for you and your church.

Our vision is to see the re-evangelisation of England and the transformation of our society.

If we can help in anyway please feel free to contact us - we'd love to hear from you!

Alpha UK Development Director

I moved to England from the USA over 16 years ago for graduate studies at the London School of Economics before going to work for the US Ambassador to the Court of St James's. At the end of the Ambassadorial term, I came to work for Alpha International, working directly with the Executive Director of Alpha International and HTB, and in 2001 I took on the role of heading up the development of the Alpha course and supporting the growth of the Alpha International ministries in the UK.

I believe I have the best job in the world as my own passion is to see the re-evangelisation of the UK and the transformation of our society which just so happens to be Alpha International's Vision Statement.

Fun fact about me: My husband, toddler son and I live along the Thames in Berkshire. I am very fortunate that my son loves aeroplanes as my favourite activities include travel throughout the UK and abroad, as well as reading and hiking. One of my son's first phrases was 'Zach back pack'!

Head of Alpha England

I grew up in a village north of Bristol but now live in West London. I came on the Alpha course at Holy Trinity Brompton as a guest in 2007 and then joined the staff in May 2008.  I am currently studying for an MA in Christian Theology which is a big challenge and keeps me very busy!

It is such a blessing to work with churches across England and I have lots of fun travelling to different parts of the country meeting amazing Alpha teams.

Fun fact about me: I have 5 beautiful nieces and nephews who I absolutely adore!

Alpha UK Relationship Manager / National Coordinator for Alpha for ESOL

I was born in Hong Kong to a Chinese mother and an English Father and learnt to speak, read and write Chinese - even though I consistently came bottom of the class in a local Chinese school in Chinese Language and Chinese History and drove my Chinese teachers crazy! I do, however, appreciate this skill (whatever is left of it!) now. I came to England for boarding school at the age of 16 and then went to Bath University. After graduating I went on to do a Masters in Marketing, and was wholeheartedly pursuing a career in Marketing - that was until I met Bonnie six years ago at HTB. My destiny was then changed forever. I am now part of the most amazing Alpha UK team.

Fun fact about me: I'm an aspiring jewellery designer!

Alpha UK Relationship Manager

I am originally from sunny South Africa and have been in the UK for 4 years. I went to Rhodes University where I completed a Bachelor of Science degree. I spent a year living and teaching in Glastonbury which was a wonderful experience and I met two of my best friends there. I then moved up to the bright lights of London and carried on teaching until May this year when God opened doors for me to join the Alpha UK team.

I love the relationships that blossom during the Alpha course. It is so refreshing when people skip the 'fluff-talk' and get to the questions that are really on their hearts.  Every group is so different with such different backgrounds and experiences and I love hearing their stories.

Fun fact about me: I love sport and had the privilege of representing South Africa at the World Triathlon Championships held in Lausanne, Switzerland

Alpha UK Relationship Manager

I am a London (Irish) lad, currently living in West Hampstead with my beautiful wife Leona. We've been married for 2 years and are both actively involved on the service team of a Catholic charismatic prayer group for young adults, which meets at our church in central London.

I have been a part of the Alpha UK team since August 2010. Before joining the team I worked for 6 years in a Catholic church in NW London. I introduced Alpha to the church there and became an Alpha Adviser, before moving into RE teaching for 2 years. I also have an MA in Biblical Studies, qualifications in Biblical Greek & Hebrew, as well as other pastoral & theological qualifications.

I love Alpha because it makes evangelisation easy and non-threatening, and it is so adaptable to the needs of churches and guests. It is also a wonderful way for churches to work together and share the gifts God has given to each tradition for the up-building of the Body of Christ.

Fun fact about me: I am the team's chief tea-maker. I make a mean cuppa and I see this as a crucial ministry to the well being of Alpha UK in the coming years!

Regional Director of Alpha in the North

I'm married and have 3 children and I live in the city of York. I have worked for Alpha for the last 6 years helping to develop and encourage Alpha courses and related ministries across the North of England.  I have run more than 30 Alpha courses and am a regular speaker at local Alphas and training events.  I'm ordained in the Church of England and help to lead a cafe-style church.

Fun fact about me: I love running, cycling and I cook a mean curry!

Alpha UK Administrator

I grew up in West London and after attending school in Hammersmith I moved to Bristol to study at the university. Little did I know at that stage that I would spend the next 13 years living there, with a life-changing year at a South African Bible school thrown in half way through! Life so far has been nothing if not varied; highlights have included working in a busy deli, managing a popular arts and music venue, living in a community house, completing an Art Foundation, and setting up the admin and HR for a 'bouldering' centre - all with lots of fun, hard work and lessons along the way. I moved back to London in July last year and took up my role in the Alpha UK team.

What I love about Alpha is the opportunity to engage intellectually with the gospel and the permission Alpha gives for questioning and discussion. I also love that its lifeblood is hospitality and that everyone is welcome.

Fun fact about me: I appeared on TV aged 4 riding on a painted elephant at an Indian Festival in London's Holland Park!

Jane Auld

Jane
South West Alpha and Marriage Course Adviser

I practised as a barrister for 25 years before stopping, in 1995, to raise my children.  We were living in Bath at the time and, since I had time on my hands (!), I became the administrator of my church’s Alpha Course.  This led to becoming the Alpha Adviser for the Bath and North East Somerset area and then a member of the South West England Alpha Board.  I have therefore been involved in the organisation of many Alpha courses in lots of different locations; from courses with hundreds to a course with just one guest; from courses for teenagers to courses in residential homes.

Fun fact about me: my late father was in the British Army so my childhood was spent in many different places; I was born in India and, as a child, attended the independence celebrations in Ghana.
