Last month, Paul Cowley, Executive Director of Alpha for Prisons and Caring for Ex-offenders, delivered an Alpha for Prisons training day to 100 evangelical prisons pastors and their families, in Guadalajara, Mexico. This followed a two day Global Alpha training which a church from Spain had led. The pastors were all ex-offenders and were new to Alpha. Each of the pastors came from the 30 provinces in Mexico. At the end of the training day, they were all given a pack of Spanish Alpha resources to take back with them so that they can run Alpha in prisons all around Mexico.
Paul was also invited to a prison in Guadalajara together with all the pastors. Here they gave the prisoners refreshments and toiletries which they were absolutely delighted with. The prisons in Mexico are very basic - however the work of Christian volunteers in supporting the prisoners in spiritual and practical ways gives them enormous hope. We now pray for Alpha courses to start in every prison in Mexico.
