Alpha Friends

Nicky Gumbel was one of two main speakers at the third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization in Cape Town, South Africa in October. 

I decided to do the Alpha course when one of the leaders invited me to attend. I first heard about Alpha twelve years ago and made a mental note to find out more about it. The motivation for attending the course was quite straightforward, if I could learn something new and deepen my faith in the process that would be first prize. If not, then perhaps I could meet some new friends.

"I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" Mark 9:24b

Prior to attending the Alpha course I had numerous unanswered questions and felt unsettled as my faith had waned. My state of mind would best be described as being mostly unhappy. My work colleagues were both obstructive and cynical in an environment that was suffocating.

We started Alpha in our TB hospital in SA. I see the members who are attending it at the workplace displaying calmness, co-operation, kindness and I look forward to introducing new members.

Alpha was that experience of breaking the ice for me. A place of fellowship which developed into long standing friendships and an amazing spirtual journey!
